Daniel Cormier fought Jon Jones twice, losing both, although the second fight, in 2016, was changed to a No Contest and DC's belt reinstated after Jones tested positive for metabolites of the steroid Turinabol. During a recent episode of the DC and Helwani Show, Cormier revealed for the first time that following the loss at UFC 182 in 2015, he got a locker room bonus of $1 million.
“After I had lost to Jon Jones, Lorenzo Fertitta gave me a million dollars," said Cormier. "Him and Dana gave me a million dollars. They actually called me and said, ‘We are going to give you a million dollars for the job that you’ve done.”
“So when people say, ‘Wow you made $80k to fight Jon Jones and that was a big pay-per-view...’ No, they gave me a million dollars. I didn’t get PPV [points], I was just a challenger fighting a guy who has defended his belt all those times.”
Cormier said further that for his next fight, a win vs. Anthony Johnson at UFC 187 for the vacant title, he made another $1 million. His reported contract was for 90/90, but that DC said his actual base pay was $300,000, he got another $300,000 from PPV points, and a locker room bonus of $400,000.
“So when people talk about ‘You’re a white knight for the UFC’ why wouldn’t I be?" he argued. "They changed my life."
