UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic has several times voiced displeasure over his purse. In his first title defense, a KO over Alistair Overeem, 'Reem reportedly had a higher paying contract. In his second title defense, a TKO over Junior dos Santos, JDS reportedly had a higher paying contract. In his third title defense, a Unanimous Decision over Francis Ngannou, marketing for the fight notably focused on The Next Big Thing.

With that win, Miocic became the first UFC heavyweight champion to successfully defend the title three times. In a moment that some interpreted as a protest, Miocic took the belt from UFC president Dana White, and

However, things have improved. Miocic appeared in a much-played ad for UFC sponsor Modelo and as a coach on TUF 27. Heading into his fight vs. light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier at UFC 2226 on Saturday, Miocic said he is "100 percent" happy for the first time with his payday, and that it is "100 percent" the largest of his career.

“A lot has changed,” said Miocic at a recent media lunch scrum, as transcribed by Dave Doyle for MMA Fighting. "I think it had a lot to do with the change in the company too, they were stuck in their transition. I’m just, I was stuck when they sold the company, they were looking for what’s good for them, but I understand that. They spent a lot of money, they spent four billion dollars it’s not like, ‘Ahh, sure guys.’ it’s a little bit different than that. They made it right and it was all good.”

“Dana and I, we talked that stuff out and it worked out great."

One of the highlights of the greatest fighters' careers is defend a belt at Madison Square Garden, but Miocic is not interested for the most practical of reasons.

“A lot of taxes,” he said. “Lots of taxes.”
